My birthday is September 12th. To my amazement, this year I’ll be 70 years old. I’m devoting Summer 2015 to getting my body, mind and spirit in tip-top shape for the rest of my life.
I’m a Bronx born native New Yorker. After college graduation, I spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines. My training group flew to Manila on September 12, 1966, my 21st Birthday. Joining the Peace Corps was my first independent, adult decision and it turned out to be one of the best I ever made.
In November 1968, after traveling around the world, I settled into an apartment on Manhattan’s Upper Westside where I still reside 47 years later.
I had several professional incarnations – elementary school teacher, manpower development specialist, advertising executive (a Madmen moment), Puerto Rican rock band manager, and consumer researcher – before finding my calling as a Public Relations consultant. Over the last 30 years, I’ve represented an eclectic roster of clients ranging from the scuba diving industry to the United Nations to bold-faced names.
My life has been a great adventure. I was the personal media consultant to the Secretary Generals of two UN World Conferences; I’ve experienced an all-access rock-star life thanks to my client, legendary producer Phil Ramone; and I’ve gone scuba diving with “Her Royal Deepness,” Dr. Sylvia Earle. I even married a guru in India. I’ve been there, done that and given away the T-shirts.
In 2004, I put my life on ‘idle’ and became my mother’s primary caregiver until she died in April 2014. Having lost my 60s caregiving, it is my intention to spend my 70s, 80s and beyond living my life at full throttle. I’m blessed to have made it to the threshold of my Golden Years in good health.
I plan to be as BADASS in my Golden Years as I’ve been my entire life. I hope to be a role model for younger women and an inspiration to others in my generation.
You are DEFINITELY an inspiration to me! Can’t wait to see what’s next! WOO HOO!
